Are you in town because you heard there's a big Maggie Sottero bridal gown sale and you have to own one? Or are you in town for a company sales retreat for the weekend? You have come to the right place if you answered yes to either one of those questions and are also looking for things to do while in Providence, Rhode Island. Visiting a town you don't know much about can be difficult. You don't know anyone and don't know where to go. Luckily, we're here to help. We will be discussing a few things you can do while in Providence that will make your stay here as pleasant as possible.

Being on vacation usually means you don't have to go to school. If you're in Providence though, we suggest hitting up Brown University for a visit. The prestigious university is not only one of the country's top institutions but it's also an alluring landmark that attracts many visitors. There are beautifully built architectures in their buildings that are well worth your time to check out. Not only will you get a glimpse of the old buildings but there are plenty of pretty gardens to look at as well. You could also take a tour of the grounds and learn many important facts about the city of Providence that you never knew. For instance, did you know that George M. Cohan, the writer of 'I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy,' was born in Providence? Learning that must be more interesting than staring at aquarium decorations in your hotel room all day, right?

If you're not really up for a fact finding mission we suggest heading on down to the Comedy Connection. The Comedy Connection is a great place to unwind and have an entertaining evening. It's been host to popular stand up comedians such as Jim Breuer and Dennis Miller in the past. Stand up comedy isn't for everyone but the Comedy Connection is a great place to go to if you're looking to laugh a lot and just have fun. If you have the time and are in Providence for an extended period of time you can even take lessons to learn how to be a comedian. Putting stand up comedian on your Oregon business cards sure would be pretty cool.

Providence is also host to an array of popular eating spots if you're just looking to stay in for the night and eat some good food. Trinity Brewhouse tends to be a favorite among locals and a place you should check out. They serve all-American food that tastes delicious and fills you up. They also brew their own beers on the premises which is something any beer drinker can't turn down. You'll find a type of beer to compliment any meal you choose. The restaurant is also close to the Providence Place Mall so you can eat and then take a stroll through the mall. The Trinity Brewhouse atmosphere might even make you think you never left your basement. That is until you notice there aren't any vinyl wall letters that spell out the name of your fantasy football team on the wall.

We hope that you decided to take off those headphones and turned the R&B hip hop music on your iPod off and actually left your hotel for the weekend and explored the town of Providence. Whether you took our advice and did something we mentioned or just cruised around town on your own, we hope you had fun. Providence has a lot to offer and it's more than likely that your short visit here didn't give you enough time to do or see everything. Which is a good thing because it'll give you an excuse to visit again. We hope you enjoyed your stay and do visit Providence again!
