Whether you're a Kitsilano real estate agent or the CEO of a major financial firm in Providence, your mother probably told you at some point that; 'the most important thing is your health.' Providence has taken that statement to heart and has erected an impressive array of medical facilities to promote and maintain the well-being of its residents. It has eight of the eleven hospitals in the state of Rhode Island as well as Brown University's Alpert Medical School and a company that performs radiology reviews. If you're an estate agent Canada based, you'll be interested to know that this is more hospitals per capita than any Canadian city. For an overview of this extensive health network, read on.
Health Insurance
Unlike in Canada, where any idiot who falls from the roof of a Palace Pier condos building will be patched up for free by the government, Americans must seek private health care insurance or risk paying for their care out of their own pockets. The primary health care insurance provider in Providence is Lifespan, which has five partner hospitals and is based in Rhode Island. The second largest is Care New England, which caters to patients in several states in the New England region and has two partner hospitals in Rhode Island.
Hospitals
Which hospitals you go to depends less on which one is closest to your place in Poughkeepsie NY Homes and more on what insurance company the hospital is affiliated with. In the Lifespan family is the Rhode Island Hospital, which is the largest hospital in the state and a teaching hospital for the Alpert School of Medicine, and the Hasbro Children's Hospital. The Women's and Infants' Hospital, which is a Care New England affiliate, is the best hospital for gynecology, obstetrics, and reproductive study. Other hospitals include the Roger Williams Medical Center, which is known for its oncology program, and the St. Joseph's Hospital, a Catholic facility.
Medical School
If you want to become one of the few and the proud, providing life-saving medical care to the sick and injured and making enough money to buy real estate in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, then attending medical school needs to be on your to-do list. Ivy-League Brown University has the Alpert Medical School, which is ranked #34 on the U.S. News and World Report's list. Almost all of the hospitals in Providence are affiliated with it and it attracts approximately $200 million in outside funding for its research programs every year. It is also one of the hardest medical schools in the country to get into, so if your income ambitions or grades are less modest, you could always apply to the nursing program at the nearby University of Rhode Island instead.
Specialty Services
The Quality Assurance Review Center, although it sounds like something touted on Toronto real estate blogs as a way to weed out false listings, works with the University of Massachusetts and the National Cancer Institute to double-check protocols and diagnostic imaging results. The Rhode Island Blood Center, also located in Providence, oversees blood collection, testing and distribution to all of the hospitals in the state. Behavioral disorders are treated at Miriam Hospital, psychiatric problems at Butler Hospital, and substance abuse issues at Roger Williams. The Veteran's Hospital in Providence also provides care to returning service people.
